SiS Rest & Recover for your evening routine
SiS Rest & Recover is a capsule supplement for athletes who take their night's rest as seriously as their training. The base is magnesium bisglycinate, supplemented with L-glycine, L-tryptophan, Montmorency cherry extract (CherryPURE®) and L-theanine. You take 4 capsules with water, approximately 30 minutes before bed. A tub contains 120 capsules, thus covering 30 evenings.
The difference between bisglycinate and other forms of magnesium
Magnesium exists in dozens of forms, which differ significantly. Magnesium oxide contains a lot of magnesium on paper, but your body absorbs only a small part of it. Citrate does much better, although this form is laxative at high doses. With magnesium bisglycinate, each magnesium ion is bound to two glycine molecules. Your intestines recognize this combination as an amino acid and absorb it through a different pathway than isolated minerals. In practice, this means: good absorption, without your stomach or intestines protesting. Per daily dose of 4 capsules, you receive 150 mg of elemental magnesium, which is 40% of the reference intake. This may seem modest compared to pots that show 300 mg, but SiS deliberately stays below the 250 mg considered in Europe as the safe upper limit for magnesium from supplements. Elemental here means: the pure magnesium itself, regardless of the weight of the compound in which it is found.
What's in the capsules besides magnesium
Here, Rest & Recover stands out from a simple pot of magnesium. Per daily dose, you receive 1500 mg of L-glycine, 220 mg of L-tryptophan, 110 mg of CherryPURE®, and 100 mg of L-theanine. These are not symbolic pinches; many isolated magnesium products add at most 50 mg of glycine as an excipient. Glycine also plays a double role here. It is the chelation partner of magnesium and a full-fledged amino acid found in almost all proteins in your body and used by your nervous system as a messenger. Your body does not produce L-tryptophan itself. It serves as a raw material for serotonin and melatonin, the substances by which your body regulates its day-night rhythm. CherryPURE® is a standardized extract of Montmorency cherry (Prunus cerasus), a sour cherry that naturally contains small amounts of these same substances. L-theanine, finally, is an amino acid from green tea. The capsule shell is vegetable, made of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose.
What magnesium demonstrably does
Many athletes take magnesium before bed, but what does EU-recognized science say? Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and normal functioning of the nervous system. It also contributes to normal psychological functions, normal energy metabolism, and reducing fatigue. There is no official claim about sleep for magnesium, so we do not make one. Good to know: you lose magnesium through sweat. Those who train a lot and intensely thus have a lower magnesium status faster than someone who sits at a desk all day. Supplementing with magnesium bisglycinate is then a comfortable way, precisely because this form leaves your digestion undisturbed.
Every batch goes through the Informed Sport laboratory
SiS has every production batch of Rest & Recover tested via Informed Sport, the independent certification program of the LGC laboratory. Each batch is checked there for substances on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) prohibited list before the product leaves the factory. For competitive athletes, this is not a detail but a condition, and something rarely found with parapharmacy brands. Moreover, if you are looking for an evening supplement without melatonin, you are in the right place. The formula is composed of one mineral, three amino acids, and a cherry extract. No hormones then, just nutrients that you also partly get from your daily diet, but in fixed quantities per capsule.
Rest & Recover complements the SiS range at a time when shakes and gels are no longer important: in the evening. Four capsules in your evening routine, one pot lasts a month. SiS keeps it that simple.
