SiS GO Isotonic Energy Gel Cherry

A 60ml sachet, to be squeezed during a race or training. SiS GO Isotonic Energy Gel Cherry provides 22 grams of maltodextrin-based carbohydrates per sachet, with no need to drink water. The flavour is a refreshing cherry note, not too sweet and pleasant to consume when fatigued. Gluten-free and aspartame-free, suitable for vegans, certified by Informed Sport.

What "isotonic" means in practice

Isotonic is a scientific term that indicates a liquid has the same concentration as the cells in your body. For an energy gel, this means the stomach doesn't need to draw in additional fluid to dilute the gel before passing it on. This is what happens with most classic gels, and sometimes causes a bloated feeling. With an isotonic gel, the product leaves the stomach faster and carbohydrates are available more quickly. SiS introduced this principle in 2002, a world first for an energy gel. In 2015, the product won the Queen's Award for Enterprise.

22 grams of maltodextrin-based carbohydrates

The energy source in this product is maltodextrin, derived from corn starch. Maltodextrin has a lower sweetening power than ordinary sugar, which makes the gel less sticky and less intense in taste. This is a deliberate choice. During prolonged efforts, flavour fatigue is a real problem and a gel that is too sweet then works against you. Per 60ml sachet, you get 22 grams of carbohydrates with only 0.6 grams of sugar. No notable amounts of lipids or proteins.

Water-free, and practical

As the gel is isotonic, you don't need to drink water with it. This makes the gel usable when a bottle or aid station is not within reach. You can open it during a sprint, in the middle of a climb, or during a race without having to adjust your pace. Take 1 to 3 gels per hour to reach the recommended 60 to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour. For a 3h30 marathon, this represents 10 to 12 gels in total.

Informed Sport certified, gluten-free and aspartame-free

All SiS GO gels are batch-tested by Informed Sport for banned substances on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) list. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians, gluten-free and aspartame-free. The flavourings are of natural origin. No artificial colours in most flavours, with the exception of the orange variant which contains beta-carotene.

The cherry flavour is one of the most refreshing variants in the range, easy to combine with other flavours if you plan longer sessions with several gels per hour. The formula is identical in each flavour; only the flavouring and any colouring differ.

Why SiS GO Isotonic Energy Gel Cherry?

The world's first isotonic energy gel, launched in 2002

SiS introduced this gel in 2002 as the world's first isotonic energy gel. In 2015, the product won the Queen's Award for Enterprise. Isotonic means that the concentration of the gel is equal to that of your blood and cells, so the stomach can process it quickly without drawing in extra fluid.

22g of carbohydrate per sachet, without the need for water

Most energy gels require you to drink water. This is not necessary with this one. The isotonic formula means the gel quickly leaves the stomach without additional fluid. Less risk of feeling bloated during exercise, more focus on your pace.

1 to 3 gels per hour, depending on your effort

Aim for 60-90 grams of carbohydrates per hour during sustained effort. This equates to 3 gels per hour during intensive use. Each gel provides 22 grams of maltodextrin-based carbohydrates, with almost no sugar (0.6 grams). To be combined with other SiS products in your nutrition plan.

Every Batch Tested by Informed Sport According to WADA List

All SiS GO Gels are batch tested for banned substances by Informed Sport. Suitable for vegans, gluten-free, aspartame-free. No artificial flavours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an isotonic energy gel?

Isotonic means the gel has the same osmolality as your blood and cells. The stomach therefore does not need to draw in extra fluid to process it, which is normally required with concentrated gels. The result: the gel leaves the stomach faster and carbohydrates become available more quickly. You also don't need to drink water with it.

When and how to use the gel?

Tear the top of the sachet and squeeze the content directly into your mouth. Start taking it during an effort lasting more than 45 to 60 minutes. Take 1 to 3 gels per hour, depending on the intensity and duration. In cold weather, your needs may be higher. You don't need to drink water with it, although it is possible.

Do I need to drink water with it?

No, that's precisely the point. The isotonic formula makes an extra sip of water superfluous. This is convenient when you don't want to stop at every aid station during a race or if you don't have a water bottle. Of course, drink normally throughout the day, but the gel itself works without additional liquid.

How many gels do you need for a marathon or a long run?

For an effort lasting more than an hour, the recommendation is 60 to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour. This means 3 gels per hour at the upper limit. For a 3h30 marathon, you would therefore need 10 to 12 gels in total. If you combine them with other foods, adjust the number of gels accordingly.

What is maltodextrin and why is it in the gel?

Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate derived from corn starch. It has a low sweetness compared to regular sugar, making the gel less sticky and less intensely sweet than sugar-based gels. Your body quickly converts it into glucose. This is precisely why it is used in sports energy gels.

What's the difference between this and a classic energy gel?

Classic gels are often concentrated and hypertonic, meaning your stomach draws in liquid to dilute the gel. This takes time and increases the risk of stomach upset. SiS GO gel is isotonic, so this step is eliminated. The result: faster absorption and less risk of bloating. This makes a difference during intense exercise or if you have a sensitive stomach.
