SiS Beta Fuel Energy Chew Bar Lemon

A 60-gram chewable energy bar with 45 grams of carbohydrates. SiS Beta Fuel Energy Chew Bar Lemon provides the same 1:0.8 glucose to fructose ratio as the rest of the Beta Fuel range, but in a solid, chewable form instead of a liquid gel. The flavor is a fresh lemon taste with a slight acidity. Break into six cubes, each containing approximately 7 grams of carbohydrates. Gluten-free, caffeine-free. Informed Sport certified.

Chewing as an alternative to swallowing

Gels are liquid and are absorbed in a single gulp. This works well for many athletes, but during prolonged exertion, taste fatigue or gastric irritation from liquid sugars can occur. A chew bar requires chewing, which provides a completely different sensation. The salivary glands are stimulated, the act of chewing mentally gives the impression of eating rather than drinking, and the ingestion rate is slower. This last point can be advantageous if you want to ease your stomach while still consuming carbohydrates.

1:0.8 ratio in solid form

The gels in the Beta Fuel range use maltodextrin and fructose. The chew bar uses glucose syrup and fructose syrup. The principle is the same: two carbohydrate sources with two different transport pathways in the intestine. Glucose via SGLT1 to the muscles, fructose via GLUT5 to the liver. The 1:0.8 ratio increases oxidation efficiency from 62% to 74% compared to a 2:1 ratio. 45 grams of carbohydrates per 60-gram bar.

Six cubes per bar, 7 grams each time

The bar is pre-cut into six separate cubes. You can break the bar in advance and keep the pieces in a pocket to take one by one. Or you can open the bar and break off a piece while on the go. Each cube provides approximately 7 grams of carbohydrates. For most athletes, this is enough for a 10 to 15-minute intake at a pace where you don't want to stop or spend time eating.

The chew bar is designed as a supplement or replacement for gels in the Beta Fuel strategy. For those who ride or run for a long time and want to alternate between liquid and solid energy sources, it fits well alongside gels without complicating carbohydrate calculations.

Why the SiS Beta Fuel Energy Chew Bar Lemon?

45g of carbohydrates per bar, scored into six cubes

One 60-gram bar provides 45 grams of carbohydrates and is pre-scored into six separate cubes, each containing approximately 7 grams of carbohydrates. This is convenient if, during exercise, you prefer to consume small amounts at regular intervals rather than an entire product at once. You can fine-tune your intake without having to open new packaging.

1:0.8 Glucose to Fructose Ratio, the Same Base as the Gels

The chew bar uses the same energy logic as the rest of the Beta Fuel range: glucose and fructose in a 1:0.8 ratio. In liquid gels, this is achieved via maltodextrin and fructose. In the solid bar, it's via glucose syrup and fructose syrup. The result is the same: two transport pathways in the intestine used simultaneously, which increases oxidation efficiency from 62% to 74% compared to a 2:1 ratio.

Chewy texture as an alternative to gels

Not everyone likes consuming gels hour after hour. A chew bar requires chewing, which suits some athletes better and causes less stomach upset than liquid sugars. It slips into a cycling jersey pocket or running belt and can be consumed without water or a bottle. Use it alongside gels, or as a complete replacement depending on your preference for the day.

No fat, no protein, no caffeine, no daily limit

The bar is made of carbohydrates, pectin as a gelling agent, and a coloring. No fat, no protein, no caffeine. There is no maximum number per day. Gluten-free. The only limit is your hourly carbohydrate need of 80 to 120 grams. Each batch is tested by Informed Sport against WADA's prohibited substance list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference with Beta Fuel gels?

Gels are liquid, 60 ml per sachet, 40 grams of carbohydrates, ready to use immediately. Chew bars are solid, 60 grams per bar, 45 grams of carbohydrates, and need to be chewed. The carbohydrate source also differs slightly: gels use maltodextrin and fructose, while bars use glucose syrup and fructose syrup. The principle (1:0.8 ratio, two transport pathways) is the same. The choice is a matter of texture preference and use during exercise.

How to portion the bar during an outing or competition?

The bar is broken in advance into six cubes, each containing about 7 grams of carbohydrates. You can take half of the bar (three cubes, about 22 grams of carbohydrates) and save the other half for later. Or you can break it into pieces right away before you leave. In cold weather, the bar becomes harder and less easy to break, so this is something to keep in mind during winter training sessions or early spring outings.

How many bars are needed per hour?

One bar provides 45 grams of carbohydrates. For the recommended 80 to 120 grams per hour, two bars per hour are needed at the lower end of the range. When combined with a gel, the gel's 40 grams are added. One bar plus one gel provides 85 grams, which falls precisely within the recommended zone for most endurance athletes.

Do the lemon and orange bars contain the same ingredients?

Yes, the ingredient list is identical for both flavors. Only the flavoring differs. Both contain turmeric extract as a coloring agent for the yellow hue. There are no additional colorings or ingredients that vary from one flavor to another.

Does the bar perform well in hot or cold weather?

In hot weather, the bar may become a little softer but is still usable. In cold weather, it becomes harder and less pliable, making it more difficult to break into cubes. A practical tip: before heading out in cold weather, break the bar into pieces in its packaging so you can easily grab them on the go.

What is the mixpack?

The mixpack contains a combination of lemon and orange bars in a single order. Convenient if you want to try both flavors or alternate without buying a full pack of each. The contents and quantity per order are indicated on the product page.
