SiS Beta Fuel 80 Orange

An 82-gram sachet to be dissolved in 600 ml of water. SiS Beta Fuel 80 Orange provides 80 grams of carbohydrates per hour in an isotonic drink form, based on maltodextrin and fructose in a 1:0.8 ratio. The flavor is a neutral orange taste, the most understated of the three flavors and widely appreciated by cyclists during long rides. Gluten-free, suitable for vegans, Informed Sport certified.

Why 1:0.8 and not 2:1

Traditional dual-source sports drinks use a 2:1 maltodextrin to fructose ratio. With the common 2:1 ratio, the SGLT1 transporter in the intestine quickly saturates. A 1:0.8 ratio has been shown to increase carbohydrate oxidation efficiency from 62% to 74%, representing 17% more carbohydrates used per hour for the same intake. At the same time, participants reported fewer symptoms of bloating and nausea. Based on this research, SiS has reconfigured the entire Beta Fuel range to the 1:0.8 ratio.

Isotonic solution in 600 ml of water

A sports drink with 80 grams of carbohydrates in 500 ml of water would be hypertonic, meaning the stomach draws fluid to dilute the contents before processing it. This is precisely what causes gastric upset with concentrated sports drinks. Beta Fuel 80 dissolves in 600 ml of water and then becomes isotonic, at the same concentration as blood and body fluids. The stomach processes it directly without additional fluid subtraction, which reduces the risk of bloating or nausea.

One sachet per hour or combine with gels

One sachet per hour provides 80 grams of carbohydrates, at the lower end of the recommended range of 80 to 120 grams per hour for endurance efforts lasting more than two hours. If you want to go higher in this range, combine the sachet with a Beta Fuel gel or chew bar. This allows you to distribute the intake between drinking and eating and adapt it to what your stomach can tolerate at that moment. Drink small sips regularly and don't put the bottle aside before emptying it.

Three ingredients, nothing more

The ingredient list is short: maltodextrin (57%), fructose (42%) and flavor. No preservatives, no colorants, no sweeteners. Gluten-free, lactose-free, wheat-free, nut-free, suitable for vegans. Each production batch is controlled by Informed Sport according to the WADA prohibited substances list. The product does not contain sodium. During prolonged effort where you sweat a lot, add an HYDRO tablet or an HYDRO+ sachet to supplement sodium intake.

Beta Fuel 80 is a product for those who move for a long time at high intensity and take their carbohydrate intake seriously. For an effort of less than two hours, the dosage of 80 grams per hour is too high for most athletes. The product is then not the most logical choice compared to one or two separate GO gels per hour.

Why SiS Beta Fuel 80 Orange?

80 grams of carbohydrates in a 1:0.8 ratio per sachet

Beta Fuel 80 delivers 80g of carbohydrate per 82g sachet, in a 1:0.8 ratio of maltodextrin to fructose. With the common 2:1 ratio, the SGLT1 transporter in the gut quickly saturates. The 1:0.8 ratio better distributes the load between the two transport pathways, so your gut can process more carbohydrates per hour.

Isotonic formula with minimal risk of gastric distress

With a high concentration of carbohydrates in a sports drink, gastric emptying is a risk. Beta Fuel 80 is an isotonic solution in 600ml of water, meaning the concentration is equal to that of blood and body fluids. The stomach therefore doesn't need to draw in additional fluid to process the contents. Less bloating, faster absorption. The 1:0.8 ratio also reduces self-reported gastric distress compared to 2:1 mixtures.

Three ingredients, no colorants or preservatives

The ingredient list is short: maltodextrin (57%), fructose (42%) and flavouring. No artificial colourings, no preservatives, no sweeteners. Gluten-free, lactose-free, wheat-free and nut-free. Suitable for vegans. Informed Sport certified by batch.

Can be combined with Beta Fuel gels for 80-120 grams per hour

One sachet per hour provides 80 grams of carbohydrates. By combining it with one or two Beta Fuel gels, you reach the recommended 80-120 grams per hour for efforts lasting over two hours. This allows you to split your intake between drinking and eating when your stomach can tolerate it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Beta Fuel 80 for?

For endurance athletes engaged in efforts lasting more than two hours, such as cyclists, triathletes, marathon runners, and ultra-runners. At this intensity and duration, glycogen stores deplete if not replenished. Beta Fuel 80 provides 80 grams of carbohydrates per hour in a drinkable form that you can consume without gastric issues. This is not a daily supplement but a targeted energy source for prolonged exertion.

Why does Beta Fuel cause fewer stomach upsets than other sports drinks?

Most dual-carbohydrate sports drinks use a 2:1 maltodextrin to fructose ratio. At this ratio, the SGLT1 transporter in the gut quickly saturates, which caps the amount of carbohydrates absorbable per hour and simultaneously increases the risk of bloating. The 1:0.8 ratio better distributes the load between the two transport pathways in the gut. Less bottlenecking, more carbohydrates processed per hour, and less risk of stomach upset during exercise.

How to mix the sachet?

Add the entire 82-gram sachet to 600 ml of water in a bottle and shake well. The powder dissolves a little slower than a clear liquid product. Add the powder gradually and shake several times. Once well dissolved, it's ready. Drink small sips regularly throughout the effort, not all at once.

Does Beta Fuel 80 also contain sodium?

No, the powder does not contain sodium. During prolonged exertion where you sweat a lot, this is something to consider. SiS recommends adding an SiS HYDRO tablet or a HYDRO+ sachet to the water, or drinking it separately alongside the Beta Fuel. Sodium plays a role in fluid balance and fluid retention in the body.

How does Beta Fuel 80 compare to GO Isotonic Energy Gel?

GO Isotonic gels provide 22 grams of carbohydrates per 60ml sachet and are already isotonic, ready to drink. Beta Fuel 80 provides 80 grams of carbohydrates per 82-gram sachet to be dissolved in 600ml of water. For an hourly dosage of 80 grams, you therefore need 1 Beta Fuel sachet or almost 4 gels. Beta Fuel is more convenient for those with a water bottle, while gels are more convenient without one.

What's the difference between the three flavors?

Orange, strawberry and lime, and red berry all share the same formula: maltodextrin (57%), fructose (42%), and flavoring. Only the flavoring differs. The flavors were intentionally kept mild, so you can drink them hour after hour without taste fatigue. Orange is the most neutral choice, red berry is light and fresh, and strawberry and lime has a slightly fresh and tangy note.
