GABA Lozenges with L-theanine and Vitamin B6

GABA in a convenient lozenge form, with 700 mg of GABA and 75 mg of L-theanine from green tea extract (98%) per daily dose of 2 tablets, supplemented with vitamin B6. Sweetened with xylitol, with natural orange, mango, and lemon flavors. Vegan. Manufactured by LUTO Supplements.

What is GABA and L-theanine?

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a substance naturally produced by the body that acts as a neurotransmitter in the nervous system. L-theanine is an amino acid naturally found in green tea; in this product, it is provided as a green tea extract standardized to 98% L-theanine. GABA and L-theanine are often combined in supplements. There are no approved EFSA claims for GABA and L-theanine themselves, which is why we do not make any claims about their action. The added vitamin B6, however, does have approved claims.

Why a lozenge?

Unlike a capsule that you swallow, a lozenge is allowed to dissolve slowly in the mouth. This eliminates the need for water and provides a pleasant fruity flavor. The lozenges are sweetened with xylitol, a sugar substitute, and flavored with natural orange, mango, and lemon. This makes them convenient to take with you and pleasant to use for those who don't like swallowing capsules.

How to use GABA lozenges

Take 2 lozenges daily, letting them dissolve slowly in your mouth. The formula is entirely vegan. Vitamin B6 contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological functions, and the reduction of fatigue.

Why GABA with L-Theanine from LUTO Supplements?

350 mg of GABA per lozenge

Each lozenge provides 350 mg of gamma-aminobutyric acid. Taking 2 lozenges per day, you reach 700 mg, which is well within the common dosages of supplements. The dosage is therefore not symbolic but genuinely relevant.

Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate

The vitamin B6 in this formula is added as P-5-P, the biologically active form. Your body does not need to convert it first before it can use it. This is relevant because B6 is a cofactor in the conversion of glutamate to GABA.

Melts under the tongue, no capsules to swallow

These are lozenges that you let dissolve under your tongue. The ingredients are absorbed through the oral mucosa. Convenient if you prefer not to swallow capsules, and with a fruity flavor thanks to natural mango, orange, and lemon aromas.

Vegan, gluten-free, and free from artificial additives

The tablets are sweetened with xylitol instead of sugar. They contain no artificial colors or preservatives. The formula is entirely plant-based and free from gluten and lactose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is GABA?

GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid. It is an amino acid that your body produces itself in the brain, where it acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter. This means it calms nerve cells. Your body makes GABA from glutamate, another signaling substance that is stimulating. For this conversion, your body needs vitamin B6.

Why are they lozenges and not ordinary capsules?

With a lozenge, you let the tablet dissolve under your tongue. The idea is that the ingredients are absorbed through the oral mucosa rather than through the stomach. Whether this actually makes a big difference in absorption for GABA is not definitively proven scientifically, but many users prefer this form to capsules that need to be swallowed.

Does supplemental GABA really reach the brain?

That's a legitimate question. The blood-brain barrier is a selective filter that likely only allows limited passage of GABA. The debate continues among researchers about how much orally ingested GABA truly becomes centrally available. Some of the effect may be via peripheral receptors or indirect pathways. Despite this uncertainty, many people deliberately choose GABA supplementation.

60 tablets, isn't that a small amount for the price?

At 2 tablets per day, you have a one-month supply. Each 2-tablet dose provides 700 mg of GABA, which is within the typical dosages for supplements. For those who wish to take less (1 tablet per day), the bottle will last two months. So, it depends on your personal use.

Why is there vitamin B6 in a GABA product?

Vitamin B6 is a cofactor in the conversion of glutamate to GABA in your body. Without sufficient B6, this conversion cannot proceed effectively. In this product, B6 is added as pyridoxal-5-phosphate, the active form that your body can use directly without additional conversion steps. The dosage per tablet is moderate (0.7 mg), but at 2 tablets per day, you are close to the recommended daily intake.

What is the difference between GABA and L-theanine?

GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter itself, which calms nerve cells. L-theanine is an amino acid derived from tea that works through a different pathway: it modulates glutamate signaling and can cross the blood-brain barrier, which GABA probably does not. In this product, GABA is the main ingredient with 350 mg per tablet. The amount of L-theanine, at 37.5 micrograms, is very low compared to the usual 100 to 200 mg in studies. This is therefore primarily a GABA product.
